Huge political rally for Friday in Thailand. Could there be violence? The political state of affairs here in Thailand is getting more unstable everyday. The protests against the current government are continuing in Bangkok demanding it to leave power. They want the Prime Minister Samak Sundarvej to resign.

Mr. Samak was very stern last week and even said that he would use whatever force was needed to break up the protests, this included using the army. A criticism then had Mr. Samak eating his words and saying he had been misunderstood.

Then one of Samak’s ministers puts a ban on live coverage of the protest from Bangkok, threatening cable TV providers with a huge fine and even jail. This outraged people as it denied freedom of speech.

The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) who are leading the protests has set Friday as D-Day to hold a major rally at Government House, it’s calling it the make-or-break attempt to oust the Prime Minister and his cabinet.

The PAD leader announced last night that Friday was the day to ‘’demand the country back'’ from those who corrupted and exploited it. He then said this ‘’On Friday June 20 at 1pm we will pack everything [to go to Government House]. And we won’t give up until we win,'’

This is a little worrying; this isn’t looking good for anyone. Both political parties are being incredibly immature and childish. These people are meant to be running the country and thinking about or creating ways to make this country more prosperous for its people.

With this imminent clash on the cards for Friday, there is a chance of violence, a good chance. If the government supporters are there in size then things could get heated, this happened a month ago when supporters of each party clashed and bottles and other missiles were thrown.

The army has said it will stay out of intervening in any disputes, this is good news but how reliable it is, remains to be seen. We had a military coup less than 2 years ago; I personally believe that this is where the country is heading again in the near future.

The problem the government has, if it tries to order the military to use force to break up the protests is this. The State enterprise unionists (SEU) have threatened to strike if violence is used.

An umbrella group of state enterprise workers threatened to have its members lay down tools and cut power and water to government offices if the government uses force to crack down on anti-government protesters.

They will cut the power and water to government offices, this is a serious threat. How seriously it can be taken remains to be seen?

The State Enterprise Workers’ Relations Confederation on Tuesday said it pledged full support for the demonstrations of the PAD.

The secretary-general of the confederation said his group had voted to have its members join the PAD’s rallies. He said that at least 10,000 state enterprise workers would join the rallies.

The size of the rally is getting large, the have been figures of mid thousands to fifteen thousand people attending at different times for the protests. You add another 10,000 people and things are starting to get hard to control

Apart from the threat of cutting power and water, the other huge worry is the State Enterprise Workers’ Relations Confederation would provide free services to the people of Thailand. Now, that would hurt Thailand.

This political tit for tatting needs to stop, an agreement and a cease to all this foolishness must come. The people of Thailand must be shaking their heads in shame at the actions of these politicians, their leaders. They are making Thailand a laughing stock for other countries with this silliness.

Maybe HM the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej could offer them some advice; he has done this on a few occasions when politicians needed a little guidance. I know that they would listen to His Majesty, as if they didn’t they would be being disrespectful to the man they hold in the highest respect.

I am following this protest with interest, not that it will affect me but the Thai people around me. I am hoping that violence doesn’t come out of Friday’s protest or the weekend.

We will know this answer by Monday.
